It's Hard to Beat a Bale

Up

Whether you are using bulk, other baled shavings, or alternative bedding products, we believe you will find DryNest to be cost effective, quality bedding for your facility. Using bales over bulk presents many advantages to a facility's bottom line that are not always obvious, including:

Consistency: DryNest bales are manufactured with stringent quality control guidelines resulting in year round consistent supply that never changes. Bulk shavings can be inconsistent in their quality, and supply typically suffers from seasonal limitations due to lumber industry production levels which are seasonal. Bulk shavings are just a non-enhanced by-product and the customer is expected to take whatever is available when the truck loads. DryNest's baled shavings can help you avoid the "good load- bad load" symptoms of bulk shavings.

Handling: The compressed nature of the bales results in fewer trips from storage bin to stalls. A typical wheelbarrow will hold 1/4 cubic yards of bulk shavings (~7 cubic feet). This same wheelbarrow can easily carry four to five bales of DryNest's shavings which is 48 to 60 cubic feet or nearly 2 cubic yards! This single wheelbarrow should hold enough bales to bed two to three stalls. Even a tractor bucket will hold only about 1/2 cubic yards, and can easily transport 10-15 bales, so tremendous savings can be realized in reduced labor costs.

Loss: DryNest's baled shavings prevent any loss of material due to weather effects (wind, rain, snow, etc.) and during transportation from the storage bin. Bulk shavings are typically stored in outside bins which are open to the weather and moving the loose shavings can also result in spills and loss of material. DryNest bales are all heat sealed in 3.5 mil plastic bags which are impervious to the weather. They can easily be stored outside without detrimentally affecting the integrity of the bale.

Show Savings: Bales travel easily to shows, eliminating the need to purchase costly bedding sold at the events. Additionally, bedding stalls on the road with the same shavings used at home will avoid the introduction of yet another variable, helping to reduce the stress that accompanies traveling with horses.

Storage: DryNest's baled shavings store efficiently- they are more easily moved than bulk and present a much neater picture. Bales can be easily inventoried so orders can be placed for delivery on the exact day it will be needed. Bales also allow for clearly establishing amounts to be used per stall for maintenance personnel, boarders, etc. which assist in determining bedding costs on a regular basis, tracking, and for future financial projections.

Since bales are compressed at a 3:1 ratio or better, a much smaller storage area will be needed for bales when compared to bulk. The 28' pup trailer quantity of 450-500 bales will store in two 12 x 12 stalls. A 28' trailer of shavings measures 8'W x 8'H x 28'L. A 53' trailer load measures 8'W x 8'H x 53'L.
